Goals...

The other day in class we were asked to provide specific goals that were to be attained at certain times of our lives. What are my goals when I make my first $15 million dollars? Not necessarily how I was going to get to $15M, but rather what's going on in my life when I do get it. The next question was to describe what my goals are when I make my first $1 billion dollars. The following were my answers to the questions. I'm only listing them right now so that I can look back maybe a few years from now and see if my goals have changed.

The reason for this exercise, as explained by my instructor, was to force ourselves into actually making goals. I always had an idea of what I wanted, but never actually described it to anyone.

The following are my list of goals (let's see how long this lasts):

When I make my first $15 million dollars, I will...
... be in a status where Ferrari will invite me to buy their latest and greatest sports car.. and I will gladly decline the offer.
... I will have homes in the cities of my production company's offices around the world. Los Angeles, NY, Vancouver, London, Tokyo and Manila.
... I will buy an apartment house or condominium building to use as a port of entry for my family who are still in the Philippines. I would like to give my cousins, aunts, uncles and other relatives the opportunity to come to Los Angeles and see if they would like to live here or just visit. My parents were given a great chance to stay here in the 70's by my father's uncle who basically gave them a place to stay while my father established himself here. I need to do the same.
... I need to make sure that my parents, brother and sister are well taken care of as far as college tuitions and mortgages are concerned.
... lastly, I want to make sure that I give my wife at least 1 year off from work. It's the least I can do since she has sacrificed this and more for me these past months while I returned to school. During this break from work, we'd want to also begin our family with a first child. After her break, I'd like to open up her own family practice facility. One where she is the boss and makes sure she hires doctors that will appreciate great service to patients rather than looking for the profitable patients.

When I make my first billion dollars I will...
... Begin my empire of amusement parks. A direct competitor to Six Flags, if you will. With my first park opening somewhere in So Cal (as if we didn't have enough of these around)
... I will be sooo financially stable that I would go back to pursuing my first career choice; teaching. I always wanted to be an elementary school teacher but never believed that the school system was ever regarded at a status it deserves. Great teachers are never compensated for what they are truely worth. So at least with a billion dollars.. maybe teaching without pay would make the experience more fulfilling.
